Waycross is excited to announce two members of the Camp leadership team for 2020. Deb Wepler (pictured on the left) will be Camp Director; and Zella Rosene (pictured on the right) will be Assistant Director for Operations and Support. Read some biographical information below about these two women with deep roots in the Waycross Camp tradition. Stay tuned for more staff announcements in the coming weeks!

Deb Wepler- has been in and around camp at Waycross for her entire life; as a camper, counselor, and director; and served as Assistant Director in 2019. She has served on the Waycross Board and as a member of the Council of Advisors. A lifelong member of the Diocese and of Trinity in Anderson, IN; where she has served as a: Sunday school teacher, youth leader, choir member, and vestry member. She worked in elementary and special education in Anderson for 36 years and credits her time on staff at Waycross with preparing her to be a teacher. She says, “Being a counselor developed leadership skills including time management, communication, and other interpersonal skills.” Deb also believes, “Being a camper at Waycross helped me grow in a loving Episcopal community including developing long-time friendships, a love of nature, and receiving and sharing God’s love.”
Deb’s daughters Elizabeth and Katherine were Waycross campers in the 1990s and early 2000s and served on staff during their college years.

Zella Rosene- has also been a lifelong member of the Waycross family. She attended camp in the 1960s and 1970s and served on staff in the late 1970s. She has played various roles at Waycross including Staff trainer and canoe trip helper as well as Camp Director for two years 2004-5. A cradle Episcopalian, she moved to Indiana as a girl and was confirmed at Grace Church, Muncie. Over the years, Zella has attended numerous churches in the Diocese, and is now a member of St. Matthew’s Indianapolis. She has worked for decades on WX Alumni Work Camp, and has contributed to many projects around camp including helping build the cabins at Picnic Hill. Zella says, “Waycross has been a central part of my life, and the third generation of my family attended camp last summer. I am excited to participate again this summer and am dedicated to keeping the program going for future generations of campers for many years to come!”
Zella’s daughters Adie and Katie along with son Will, were campers for many years and all three worked on staff. Adie was Camp Director in recent years and Katie has worked for Episcopal Camp Galilee in California.

Read some biographical information below about Julia and her deep roots in the Waycross Camp tradition. Stay tuned for more staff announcements in the coming weeks!

Julia Bell- Julia began attending Waycross as a camper at seven years old and has never been able to stay away since. After several years as a camper in the 1990s and early 2000s, she worked as a counselor in 2002-2005 and in the conference center kitchen until 2007. She continues to volunteer at Waycross through Alumni Work Camp and has contributed to many projects over the past decade, including the renovation of the Old Cabins and the construction of the lake supply shed.

Julia met her husband, Will, while both were on summer camp staff, along with several of her other now-family members and life-long friends. Their son Carter (7) attended camp last summer, and their daughter Hadley (5) can’t wait until she is old enough to be a camper. Both children have participated in small volunteer projects around camp, as well.

Julia is a cradle Episcopalian and a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Shelbyville.

Asked about her upcoming role on the Waycross 2020 Staff, Julia says, "Waycross has played a huge role in shaping the trajectory of my entire life. As a child searching for adventure and independence, a teenager searching for belonging, a young adult searching for purpose, and now a mom searching for a foundation of love, community, and acceptance for my own children, Waycross has always been my guiding light. I am grateful for the opportunity to return to the camp program this summer and help pass on the love of Waycross to a new generation of campers!"
